I’d just like to say that sometimes it’s not the DSL provider’s fault. Sometimes your router decides it doesn’t like the DSL modem any more. The house didn’t “have” Internet connection for nearly 7 hours today. My housemate said that it happens on a regular basis, but normally on short bursts. Not a big problem.
However, this time it kept going, so being the engineer that I am I decided to just start pulling plugs and ended up plugging my network cord into the DSL modem and low and behold I’ve got a connection.
Blasted router. Then he went in and removed a couple of changes he had made two days ago. Two days and then it decides it doesn’t like the Internet. Odd that it took that long. Oh, well. I’m reconnected to the world now.

i’ve had cable for several years now, and i’ve actually gone through three modems during that time.
