Luke says Moo!

My life and the world as I see it. It’ll mostly be a place for me to gripe and friends to keep up with me.

Ok, I’m lazy

Ok, as soon as I feel like it I’ll have a post containing “The State of Luke Who Says Moo!”

Unfortunately you won’t be getting that until Friday at the earliest. Anyway, I wanted to make sure that everyone knows about the cartoons that’re causing crazies to kill people and burn down embassies in various countries.

The Muhammad Cartoons are found all over the place even with people trying to hide them. Bring it baby as Google has already cached them. Go, go, Internet freedom of speech powers!

And you can see some cartoons from the states (thanks to Cox and Forkum) here: Image Problem and US reporters and A Right To Blasphemy

And Dr. 7 has this to say: “I mean, it was a POLITICAL CARTOON. Political cartoons depict issues, views, and commentary on relevent political and social issues. Violence perpetuated by Islamic extremists (esp. in the form of international terrorism) is a very relevent issue. And, especially in light of events like the WTC and the London train attacks, “Muslims are Terrorists” is a not-uncommon (though controversial) viewpoint in the Western world. That’s what the cartoon is about. It depicts a relevent political viewpoint (without giving indication of whether the artist himself subsribes to that viewpoint) and therefore has more value than “inciting ethnic or relgious hatred” or “blasphemy”. Its not just something that was printed under “freedom of expression” to make that point that it could be done. It has a message that has been completely overlooked in the media coverage.”

Which makes him seem a lot more up with things than anyone else I know.

Varifrank has Four Points to Ponder. Here are a couple of highlights:
“Who is the ‘Religion of Peace’ again?”
“These protests are angry and they are aimed not at generating sympathy or seeking redress from the population at large for a “wrong that must be righted”, that is not the message on those placards.”
” Why, out of all countries in the European Union pick on Denmark?”
“What next? This time its supposedly a protest against cartoons that they have interpreted as “blasphemous”.”

Since you apparently heard about the cartoons from my site, is that a zing against me?

  2. Luke Says:

Sorry my dear, but I knew about the cartoons well before you posted about it. The BBC put out a story several hours before I read it on your site.

Also, as a clarification: I believe that Dr. 7 is probably the most up to date and well read person on this event as of the other night. Next he also seems to have expressed a powerful opinion that strikes me as overwhelmingly “up on things” extending beyond the direct impact of these cartoons. He brings a wider much more useful view to the argument.

  3. Lissa Says:

*laugh* I wonder if you’d find his other opinions on social issues to be very “up on things” and to your liking…

I do find it interesting that 95% of the content in this entry is his unauthorized quote.

  4. Luke Says:

I believe he is “up on things” more than you give him credit for and you’d be surprised just how many of his social opinions I don’t find that out of place. He uses plenty of hyperbole and blows things well beyond what he’d ever attempt to carry out, but really are his ideas that wrong?

  5. Lissa Says:

Oh, and the next time I suspect you are “my dear”ing me in a condescending manner, you’ll receive a kick in the nuts from me the next time I see you in person.

    Darlin’.

I’m trying to be better about keeping in touch with people.

Aren’t you amazed? When you finally update the blog people crawl out from under rocks! I even read Bob’s new blog! He may think he’s writing in easy to read terms, but some of it was still over my head.
