Good Idea: Forcing all incoming students to purchase a laptop. (They really are useful.)
Bad Idea: Allowing people to not update their machines.
My school learned today that even smart people are lazy, and dumber than boxes of rocks. I’m assuming that 99% of everyone employed there already knows that and was ready, but the system was not.
Today was the day of viri (Is that spelled right?). It got so bad that the VP of the Tech department had to send out an e-mail and say that they were blocking access ports around school if you were echoing the virus. Thus, we suddenly had a slew of people without access to critical data, and the Internet. It was fun…I’m glad my job doesn’t entail having to fix that. (The best part of this is that there is nearly no one on campus right now…I can’t wait until everyone comes to school.)
Anyway, as I found out today they’re working on implementing a system that “forces” all Micrsoft critical updates onto your system when you login to the domain. Logging in to the domain is necessary as you can’t get access to the Net without it any more. Thus, part of the problem will be fixed.
Anyway, today was annoying because my job had downtime today, but the network was so clogged and loaded that outgoing connections were frequently lost. Too annoying and fustrating to be able to actually use the Internet; thus I didn’t even boot my laptop to play today.
I did start to put the Rose Thorn office back into order…we had to move out at the end of last school year to make room for the Colts becuase they rent our school for their summer camp.
