My life and the world as I see it. It’ll mostly be a place for me to gripe and friends to keep up with me.

Three things that bug me

by @ 10:34 pm on September 6, 2005.

The Pook tagged me with this some time ago and I was too lazy to answer it at the time. Hopefully I’ll post a little more often…I’ve been feeling the itch to write something…just haven’t had the energy/patience/concentration/whatever to sit down and actually write something. On top of that I haven’t had a good topic to write about…I’m living a really rather boring existence. I think I may bother Nathan and see about getting a hold of his theme for WordPress.

Of course, once I get that I should really take the time and do a proper backup and upgrade of WordPress…I’m a bit behind on both of those things. Oh, well.

On to Pookie’s meme tag:

List 3 things that bug you - things that others may find trivial. If you have an idea on how to fix it, be sure to put that down too. Then tag 6 of your friends. Only list three things because you may/can be tagged again.

1.) Prices at Ticketmaster. Ok, so I go to buy 4 tickets to the NintendoFusionTour in Indy on November 18. Tickets are $20 for general admission. Ok, that’s a very fair price. Now tack on the $7.90 convenience charge per ticket and a $2.50 charge to get them E-MAILED to me.
Ok, what is up with the $7.90 charge? The entire process is computer controlled…there’s absolutely no way that it can possibly cost them that much to run this system and there’s no way that a $4 charge wouldn’t make them good profit, but no my $20 ticket just became $30 just to get it.

And the $2.50 to get it e-mailed to me…e-mailed. WTF! ? ! As I said the entire process is computer controlled…um, how exactly is this particular act costing them anything? They’re not printing the ticket; they’re really not doing anything with it…so WTF. Of all the things I’d think this one service could be offered complementary…especially with the $7.90 “convenience” charge.

So being the genius that I am…and needing to know how to get to the venue anyway…I went and got them in person at $21 apiece. Even with gas prices I saved money. (Oh, and if you want to go to that show feel free to send me an e-mail and PayPal me some cash and I’ll go get you a ticket.) And it’s being held in the Egyptian Room at the Murat in downtown Indy…once upon a time, it was solely used for the Shriners (for lack of a better term…a branch of Freemasonry) but has been renovated and setup to host local events.

2.) Websites with dynamic content that lack an RSS feed (Atom works too).
Ok, at this stage in the game if I go somewhere and you have dynamic content (that’s freely available…logon issues and whatnot can stand on their own) and you don’t have an RSS feed don’t expect me to read your content. You can even decide to do like ARS.Technica and only give me a headline and snippet. At least then I can quickly and easily see if you have content worth my surfing over to your site. Yeah, it’s no big deal to open 50 webpages to see what all they have to offer, but damn if that isn’t a waste of time. Much, much easier to poll a couple of hundred sites to see if they’ve updated and to see if the content that got updated is worth the effort of reading. (And yeah, I know most of what I put up here isn’t worth reading, but you love me anyway.)

3.) Stupid People*. Ok, that’s a no brainer, but with the events of Katrina I have a rant with some of the stupid people there. I can rationalize grabbing food, water, life essential items, boots, floaty things; you get the idea…necessities for living in flood conditions.
But what I can’t rationalize and can’t really grasp is that fact that you’re weighing down yourselves and your vehicles with equipment that won’t be worth a damn if you get stuck in flood water and you can’t use the stuff anyway as there’s very little left of the city around you. Next, the idiots firing at rescue helicopters…you’re shooting at the guys (gals) attempting to help you and the people around you. Um, hello! ? ! They’re here to bring life saving supplies or rescue people…why exactly do they need to be shot at? One of the guys I work with got a call to his National Guard battalion on Thursday and I can only hope that people get less stupid before he gets shot at…of course, I can only hope the numbers of stupid people start to fall as the National Guard opens fire with M-16s. If you want to gang up and open fire, I’m sure the US National Guard will be more than happy to show you what a war zone is really like; as I’m sure you’re nothing compared to the hell of Iraq.

*I don’t mean everyone…just the ones doing this.

Now, who do I want to see three things that bug them? Um, I’d say Dr. 7, but who knows how long he’d really end up ranting in my comments section. How about MathJazz? Even though I haven’t done his musical baton…of course all of my music is floating around here somewhere on my external hdd or cd or mini-disc. Pookie would be my next choice, but she’s already tagged me.
How about Ambelina?

That’s it for now. Need to read a little bit for my class and then to bed…this going to work by 7am to put in enough hours at work not to have to take unpaid time off is going to get tiring. Of course, if I can get in the habit and make it stick then I’ll be able to work it out in January to take short days on Friday. Or Thursday as that’s when Charles F. Frank #760 meets for lodge (on the northside of Indy in Zionsville) which I’ll be joining as soon as the paper work gets taken care of for dual lodge membership.

Well, it does say you can be tagged again… should I consider myself tagged?

  2. Ambelina Says:

WELL…your list of things that bugs you is awfully short compared to mine. Maybe I should do this on my own rather than rant on forever here….nah!
    1. Stupid people at work, also me for not being in grad school so I don’t have to be a peon.
    2. Newspeople- I am starting to not give a GD about the hurricane victims, let’s hear a little about the Supreme Court…one of the most influential men in law just died and I almost didn’t know about it. Thank goodness I am an internet newsreading bitch.
    3. Bossy people- you canNOT get away with it.
    4. Nosey people- mind your own business.
    5. People who assume assumptuous? who cares- quit assuming things, you piss me off
    6. Too many other things to list
    Have a nice day…argh!

  3. M Says:

Can’t believe he didn’t ask for my opinions, but, of course, he’s heard them for 22 years. But I am the bossy (oops, Ambelina’s gripe) mom, so here goes.
    1. What about the grouchy shoppers the day after Thanksgiving? Give me a break! It’s the busiest shopping day of the year! If you are not going to laugh and smile, stay at home and shop on the internet!
    2. People who place blame on anyone else when something goes wrong. Take responsibility! You are in control of your life. Quit whining!
    3. The cop who almost ran me over last night because he/she was flying down 10th street. He or she had the nerve to lay on the horn. If I had a cell phone, I believe I would have called the post.
