Luke says Moo!

My life and the world as I see it. It’ll mostly be a place for me to gripe and friends to keep up with me.

Oh, so happy!

Much stress has been lifted. Much of life is better. Better there are still miles to travel and work to be done.

Happy: Senior Design project prototype: WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, our prototype is working. It scans, it talks, it adds, and it removes (and occasionally crashes). There are a few bugs to work out, but Phil doesn’t think it’ll be too horrible to stablize parts of the UI. But it’s in a working state as of right now.

Yay!

So, we took it to a local vision impaired guy (VI-guy) who works with the Will Center in Terre Haute and he talked to us about the prototype. And we got to talk to several other people at the station. We talked about some interesting ideas that we hadn’t considered and they all seemed to be impressed.

VI-guy liked our prototype and hopes that eventually we’ll be able to get something to market. Apparently, there is some sort of device like our’s on the market, but it is being sold for about $1,200…which is really outside of most people’s budgets to get this sort of device. If we were to sell our prototype I’m rather sure we could package it and sell it for about $800. Some renovations are necessary between now and market, but with a little bit of initial investment I think it would be a wonderful idea.

So, that’s good. Yesterday we had a meeting with the mentors (Profs. in charge of the class) and I gave our senior symposium presentation. They liked it. Didn’t have any questions about our project, but they did have a few critiques: 1.) Remove some of the verbage on the slides 2.) Be careful to give proper due to the first year’s group 3.) Mention that the prototype shown is a prototype 4.) When mentioning that the product started with the class of 2003 do the math for everyone and say that we’re the third group to work on it

Yay. I’ll post our report and presentation when it gets closer.

For now I’m off to read “A Fire Upon the Deep” because it’s due Thursday and I’m about an eighth of the way in…
