Just read about the 35 hour work week in France possibly being extended to “allowing people to work for up to 48 hours in a week.” (Here on the BBC News.)
And what I’ve got to say is, “Wow. No wonder they’re such a bunch of whiney asses.”
Crying because they might have to work more than 7 hours a day? Wow.
I understand the fear of giving a company total and free will over the hours you can require someone to work, but damn. There’s a point when you need to get over it and put a little work in. They’re country is sitting at 9.9% as compared to about 5% in the US and they’re concerned about the time spent at work?
Shouldn’t they be more concerned about if they’re going to have a job? Personally, I would, but I just learned that France’s unemployment benefits are about as good as employment benefits and are available for an “extremely” long time (as compared to the US).
Good grief. Of course, how long does it take to get the ability to mouch off of the French government? I might need to move there…I can get a job; keep it for a year or so; and then not work for a year living off of the government paycheck. Sounds good to me. Work a year, take a year’s vacation. Sounds better every day.
Read the Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind. One of the books sums up my feelings for strict government controled economies, but I can’t remember which one.

Damn, dude. We need to make sure you have fun on Friday, so you can chillax. What’d the French ever do to you?
