My life and the world as I see it. It’ll mostly be a place for me to gripe and friends to keep up with me.

Just a bit of snow

by @ 11:42 pm on December 23, 2004.

There’s just a little bit of snow on the ground right now…about 18-20 inches (~0.5 meter) on average and drifting to 3 feet or so in many places.

News stories that mention us here and here. (I’m in Clark county for those of you wondering.)

Anyway, to start the day at 1:30am or so my Dad, Brother, and I had to go out and shovel snow off the back porch. Apparently the vent for our gas furnace is located under the back porch and was being smothered by the snow drift. It took us half-an-hour or so to get it all cleared so it could run for a little while. Mom told me that she had to turn it off a few hours later because the ice had resealed the porch boards. Oh, well. Thanks to the wonderful insulating abilites of pine wood it only dropped to about 60ish degrees in the house.

Then around 11:30am or so we went over to help a neighbor shovel out his driveway so he could make it to the airport for a flight to Arizona…argh, where the low is in the 40’s this time of year. Bah to them. Anyway, that took a while as there was about 100 feet to shovel no less than 15 inches at any point.

After that we did about 50 feet of our drive way because Dad’s car was stuck at the half way point from the night before; it was already too deep for him to make it all the way up to the garage. Sigh…so lots of shoveling and making my back ache.

So we did that and then watched Fellowship of the Ring. Yay! Mom and Dad were lost as expected, but I got to watch it again.

Tomorrow we go to Dad’s side of the family for the family Christmas celebration…so long as we can make it down the road. So that’ll be fun.

Oh, and for those of you who were wondering about my sleeping problems I’ve got them under control. Just gotta switch around the drug dosages.

And we got word a couple hours ago that Uncle made the drive from Michigan to Cincinnatti, OH, rather well and in decent time, but the drive from Cincinati to Granny’s house required a stop at a hotel due to snow. Then an 8 hour drive from Cinci to here…which would normally take about 2 hours or so (~115 miles).
