Everquest 2 - Bard

by @ 12:19 am on November 27, 2004.

Ok…been playing Everquest 2 (EQ2) for the past week on Josh’s account.

It’s been pretty cool. The graphics are good and the game play seems nice. The intro and the learning curve is much better than it was when learning how to play EQ1. Much, much better.

Leveling is totally accomplishable now…as in I’ve played for about a week as I had time at Josh’s and I just hit level 11. Which is pretty good considering getting past 10 in EQ1 was a major accomplishment.

Anyway, as per my usual role playing game decision I decided to be a Bard. So I went throug the Scout archtype as required. Wasn’t too bad…except they kept making me go back and kill things that I had already gone to and killed in order to gain experience. Oh, well.

As it turns out I need to thank “corpusdelectus” over at Stratics Central for this post.

Which gives the location of the nearly impossible to find Fermented Grape. (The tavern needed to complete the Bard Hallmark Quest in South Queynos.)

(The post is duplicated in my extended entry for long term keeping.)

This is for the Qeynos Bard Hallmark and Dirge Hallmark. Troubador may be the same. The quests are easy but people have had problems finding the location of the fermented grape or get spanked for the Dirge hallmark. Here is the best way to finish these quests. I hope they help. I will start with the location of the Fermented Grape.

There is no sign to indicate that you are at the fermented grape. It is in an alley. You just have to right click on the door. When you are in South Qeynos you will see the buildings with the alchemist shop, and the tin soldier (or somethingl ike that) shop. If you go to the next row of buildings there is an alley in the next row of buildings. In that alley on the right side is a door. That is the door you need. Inside there will be a cowering bard and some sailors.

With your back to the wall attack the captain and move back to the wall (you can’t be backstabbed with your back against the wall).. Two of the other sailors in the building will attack you along with the captain. The are an easy kill your quest journal will update and you are done.

Dirge Hallmark

When you get level 19 (if you choose the dirge, I think the troubador is the same) You have two parts of the hallmark quest to complete. The first part is to travel to blackburrough and look for shady characters (or something like that) You can use walking lightly and sneak double stacked to wander Blackburrough untouched. The person you are looking for is in the bottom level with the gnoll brewers. When you are in the open courtyard in blackburrough just jump into the water to get to the third floor.
The room that you land in is the connecting room to the gnoll brewers. You have to swim through an underwater tunnel to reach the brewers. Once you enter the brewer room your quest journal will update. Don’t swim back out the way you came just keep following the trail and you will see a door to antonica. Once you zone into antonica you will be in a cave. There is water at one end and you can swim underwater and reach the coldwind coastline.

The next part of the hallmark questyou will be asked to spy on a secret meeting. The entrance to where the meeting takes place is located in the alley next to the tin solldier. The door is on the left. In order to complete this quest requires a little luck, but I will get to that part later. Your mission is to ring three bells and put the guards to sleep. Before you enter the shop use your walking lightly ability and your sneak at the same time (I don’t know if this is necessary but do it anyway). When you enter the building there will be a couple to several guards in every room. On the mainfloor and in the basement all of the guards are yellow or white cons so you are completely safe with your sneak/walking lightly ability. The first bell you need to ring is downstairs. After you enter the building walk between the two guards and take a left and you should see the stairs leading down. When you are in the basement go into the second or third room and you will see a door. Go into that door and you will be in the same room with a dark elf. Don’t worry about the elf just ring the bell. Remember nothing can see you so don’t worry yet. After ringing the bell head back to the main floor. When you reach the main floor go into the room directly in front of you (there isn’t a door) in the corner there will be another bell. Ring that bell.
Next travel up the stairs (they will be located by the door that you entered the building through. At the top of the stairs there will be a door. DO NOT GO IN THIS DOOR. This is the last door that you will go into after ringing the third bell. Turn right at the top of the stairs and there will be some more stairs going up to a third floor. This is where your luck comes in. There are two orange conned mobs on the top floor, because they are orange they can see through invis. They walk clockwise around the room. You will not be able to see where they are until you reach the top of the steps. If they are by the top of the stairs when you get there RUN down the stairs, zone and wait the allotted time to reenter (in which case you will need to ring all the bells again). If they are not by the stairs you have to pace yourself so you can follow them clockwise around the room, just out of aggro range. The bell is located on the far side of the room. Walk to the bell ring it and continue to follow the guards around the room until you reach the stairs.

Then head back downstairs to the door that I told you not to go in (on the second floor at the top of the stairs). Enter that room and you will notice three orange mobs sleeping on the floor. At the far end of the room you will see a table with a box on it, open the box and your journal will update. Then you can leave the building with sneak still on and you are done.

guide aye its all luck with the 3rd bell at the top. Its sucks cause there is a 13 min lockout. But one u ring that bell get down and hall butt.

Even if u get caught just hurry up pick the lock in room and zone out and you will get credit.

You can ring the bell on the same floor you walk in on first, then head upstairs to the other bell but as suggested stay behind the two guards who walk around. After that head downstairs to the first bell you rang and right inside the door (left) is a set of stairs to the basement. Ring that bell and go back up to the top floor go in and get the package.

I completed this on my level 18 Bard with Walk Lightly Adept I 620hp and ac of 457. Never took a hit.

Also, I found an easier way to not rely on luck… Use the third person view and sit about halfway up the stairs. Aim your view straight down and watch the edge of your screen. You’ll be able to see a patrolman’s foot or maybe just his toe on the side.

You can also angle the view slightly so their feet will be in the corner of the screen.
