Luke says Moo!

My life and the world as I see it. It’ll mostly be a place for me to gripe and friends to keep up with me.

Weekend

by @ 2:32 am on September 20, 2004.

Well, I had a spiffy weekend. I went from glad to mad in only a few hours. I really need to get myself back into the weekend work groove here in about oh, say a week ago.

Sigh. I got what I *had* to have done, done, but I didn’t get anything extra or helpful done…it would’ve been nice to have at least started my pre-lab work. Oh, well. I’ll just have to pull it together for the next two days.

Anyway, Saturday was good. The Senior Design team put together a decent project specification…we’re still running through some revisions, but nothing major.

The dinner Saturday night at the football game was good. They had hamburgers, etc. Unfortunately, the special guest, Dr. Rajpal Singh Sirohi, arrived late due to a wonderful airline delay. It turns out this guy is the head of a very, very prestigious school in India as I learned Sunday when the other Co-EIC and I went to interview him.

So…Sunday Co-EIC and I went to Pres. Midgley’s house for a couple of hours. Firstly to interview Dr. Sirohi, which was interesting. His school system (all 7 or 8 of the Indiana Institutes of Technology) gets about 200,000 applicants to their screening test about about 3,800 or so get to take the placement test. And as you end up lower of the 3,800 placing you get a much more restricted choice for location and major. Interesting…I’m just really happy I didn’t have to go through anything like that…

After we took care of that Dr. Sirohi and family left for an afternoon in Terre Haute…I can only imagine what they went out to do around here. Anyway, Dr. Midgley then invited Co-EIC and I to have a soft drink and sit and talk awhile. It was pretty cool to sit with the Pres. of my school and talk about the direction of the school and US engineering as a whole. Hopefully I’ll be able to do this several more times through the year and he’ll be willing to write a recommendation letter for me.

Of course, before that happens I’ve got to start reacting much, much more quickly when conversing, and I’ve got to get over this being nervous and panicy when dealing with new people.

Jerm actually liked the Purdue campus and wants to return for a real campus tour. He did okay in the field and lousy at bat. We will probably check out University of Dayton soon.

The play is the weekend before Thanksgiving, Nov. 19-21. Bob, you’re invited for the premiere, too!
