Yay! One day of school down…about 266 days to go until graduation.
The past couple of days have been very annoying.
Wednesday: I spent about 6 hours working of the computer help desk at school and was pretty much swammped the entire time. The annoying part is that before I got there few people had come seeking assistance and then once everyone (except me) was at the IAIT orientation meeting the campus computer users decided those couple of hours were the best time to get help. Making my job just a little more difficult because I don’t have admin. rights to be able to fix all server problems and of course I was trying to multi-task as many computers as possible. Oh, and don’t forget the stupid people who don’t understand that we can’t replace a part just because you think it’s bad…especially when none of our diagnostics show a problem.
Then, I find out that there were problems during Freshman laptop orientation that Dr. 7 and I didn’t know about…some of which might have effect on us. (Later we found that the higher ups just wanted some information from us about server behavior during the summer, but that wasn’t the appearance on Wednesday.)
Then, we had the activities fair which required me to search through the Union’s basement for a little while to find the Thorn’s poster board (the join us advertisement board).
Sigh, by then my stress levels were a little high and the room was full, so I decided to skip out for about an hour and go to lodge. I sat Junior Deacon…I didn’t do too bad a job especially considering the state my mind was in.
Feeling somewhat refreshed and ready for some more I went back to campus and did a little bit to help clean up our stuff from the fair and then headed back to the Thorn office. I spent another 2 hours or so working with Lissa-love to get the office in order due to packing caused by the Colts using our office over the summer. And now everything should be good to go in the Thorn office…
Thursday: First day of senior year at Rose. Sigh.
Started the day off on a most annoying foot at 7:00 am to get to my Senior Design class at 8:05 am…I was about 15 minutes early…wow. Anyway, we were given a list of 25ish possible projects we can work on. We found out earlier through indirect links that my group’s project had not been funded and we would have to complete a department obtained project meaning that instead of working on grant money for ourselves that a client would actually exist.
Anyway, the list of projects took Dr. 7 and I a while to figure out which one’s might actually be interesting and possible for our skill/interest sets. I just hope we get grouped together because we know how to work together and I could really a gpa boost from this class. ![]()
Then I went to ECE 300 - Signals and Systems - for anyone not keeping up - that’s the class I failed during last winter quarter. Sigh, it turns out this class hasn’t gotten any easier. I’m gonna have to take some time and remind myself how to do most of this work.
After class Dr. 7 and I headed to the book store…we each bought a book that we’ll share…which is a very good thing because the books were about $130 a piece…splitting book costs is wonderful.
From there we went to Sam’s and got food…food is good. But we won’t be able to do that again because normally we have lab, but Dr. Song was kind enough to not have lab on the first day of school.
Last class of the day was Digital Systems…which is setting itself up to be a repeat of Digital Design Lab and a couple of other classes…and we know the class has been revamped, so there’s a possibility that there’s a credit conflict that Dr. 7 and I need to double check with the head of our department. It should be fine, but we want to double check…better safe than sorry.
After that I went to Rose’s new President’s speach. It was good; he sure knows how to work a crowd…I wish I had that kind of stage presence. From there I went to the Thorn office with Bob S. and Lissa-love and the Midget. Hung out for a bit and then headed to the “invitation only” student leader dinner with Dr. Midgley.
He took a few minutes after dinner to engage the entire group…touching on topics that the Thorn has toyed with attempting in the past. Perhaps we might actually get something to happen. (Things like political activity, invited speakers that we might actually like to go to, having bands like Audioslave come to campus, etc.) Finished up the night making up questions for Bob S. to ask the president tomorrow in a special interview.
Finished the night up by deciding which of the crappy projects I might want to work on…just lemme get into a good group.
Anyway, headed back home this evening to celebrate Jamie’s 21 birthday…and Josh’s…and mine…and Money’s 18th birthday…should be a good night.
And I’ll be spending some time with the family as Uncle should be coming in from Michigan with Dana and the boys.
Hopefully, things’ll calm down and my life will go back to “normal” school stress and I’ll have time to post regularly.

You better start posting some more, hehe. Although even I will admit to putting off a great number of things due to school. Definitely tell your family hello for me, and Josh and Jamie too!
