Alright, I’m going to break down my 4 day trip to Des Moines for Gnomedex. I’ll be posting stuff slowly but surely.
Ok. Thursday started off with all kinds of fun at work. We had to go through 20 some laptops and add their wireless modules because the shipment hadn’t been sent through standard Compaq packaging. Then we loaded an image onto 30 some laptops (only to find out on Monday the image had to be redone due to missing software.)
Then we hit the road for Gnomedex. We spent about 8 hours in the car and we listened to “The Fellowship of the Ring” on my mini-disk player. (It’s the unabridged version, so it’s almost like reading it.) I drive a 1992 White Ford Escort. It looks like it’s been through hell and back. Paint chipping off, and dents and dings all over it. It runs though, and it got us to Des Moines. The worst part about that horrible car is that it is cramped. It’s a very tight fit and my legs and back were sore by the end of the ride.
First, we tried to find the convention center. It was definitely a good idea to look for it then rather than in the morning or we would have missed the first morning. Because it looked as if, “they had just rolled out the streets for Gnomedex.” Anyway, we made it to the convention center and then to our hotel.
When we got to the hotel, we found that we were staying in a deluxe room which had a fridge and microwave…wish I had known that before we left Indiana. We got the room for $42.20 a night…very cheap and it’s a good thing because we would’ve slept in the car Thursday night if we had to pay $80.
That worked out well. Ok, as this post is getting long I’ll sign off and think of good things to say about Friday…which was really, really freakin’ sweet.
